The collection guide

A distinctive silhouette, from every angle

Look beyond the front view

The tail is the defining feature, so check a side or back photograph and its stated length. Consider where it will fall over a cloak, coat or backpack. The shoulder cape and face opening are separate fit decisions.

Plain or dagged edges

A straight edge keeps the outline restrained; dagging adds shaped points or curves along the hem. A liripipe hood may have either finish. Compare the overall design with the character and clothing you already have.

Choose for the event

For a fair or LARP, start with comfort and the intended look. For reenactment, verify the individual pattern, materials and details against your group's requirements. The word liripipe identifies a feature rather than certifying a particular period reproduction.

Liripipe Hoods: common questions

What is a liripipe?

It is the tail or elongated point extending from the back of a hood. Its length and shape vary between designs.

Is every liripipe hood a dagged hood?

No. Liripipe refers to the tail, while dagged refers to a decoratively cut edge. A hood can include either feature or both.

Can men and women wear the same hood?

Yes, when the measurements and construction suit the wearer. Compare the opening and shoulder dimensions rather than relying on a gender label.
