Compare the materials
Look beyond the colour. Compare the outer fabric, lining and padding listed for each garment, then consider the layers you will wear and your event’s conditions.
Measure over your layers
Start with the individual product’s size guide. Check whether it uses body or finished garment measurements, and allow for the shirt, tunic or coif worn underneath.
Plan for your event
Compare length, closures and freedom of movement for your character. Historical reenactment groups and LARP organisers may have their own costume requirements.
Renaissance faire & LARP clothing questions
Where should I start with a Renaissance faire outfit?
Start with the shirt, tunic or base outfit you plan to wear. A medieval hood adds shape around the face and shoulders; a cloak adds a fuller outer silhouette. Choose pieces that work together, then compare their measurements and materials in the clothing and fit guide.
Can I use the same clothing for LARP and a Renaissance faire?
Many medieval-inspired layers can be styled for either setting. For LARP, start with your character and your event’s rules; for a faire, build an outfit around the look you enjoy. Historical accuracy and protective suitability are separate questions, so check the product details and any organiser requirements.
What is the difference between a peasant hood and a liripipe hood?
A peasant hood offers a simpler hood-and-shoulder silhouette. A liripipe hood has an extended tail. Compare the face opening, mantle shape, fabric and closures on the individual designs.
How do I choose the right size?
Use the size chart on your selected product and measure over the layers you plan to wear. Check whether the chart lists body or finished garment measurements. Our clothing and fit guide explains what to compare, including inches and centimetres.
Are these garments suitable for combat or HEMA?
Our gambesons and other garments are clothing and costume layers, not certified protective equipment. Do not assume a protective rating from the name, quilting or appearance. Follow the equipment requirements of your event or training group.
Where can I check delivery and returns?
Read the shipping policy and returns and refunds policy. If you need a garment for a particular date or have a question about a design, contact support@medievalthread.com before ordering.
